Tampa Bay Times Barnes Scholarship is open to high school seniors in the Tampa Bay Area, Florida. Eligible high school seniors must aspire to attend college outside of Florida. Four scholarships are awarded every year.
Applicants must live in the Tampa Bay counties of Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas, Citrus or Hillsborough. They must have a GPA of at least 3.0., be high academic achievers, demonstrate financial need, and have overcome significant obstacles in their lives.
The scholarship may be used to pay for college-related expenses and is paid once a year for four years for each recipient. The students must be enrolled full-time and remain in good academic standing to continue receiving the scholarship.
The scholarship is sponsored by the Tampa Bay Times, Florida's largest newspaper. The company was founded in 1884 and has won 10 Pulitzers and numerous other awards for outstanding journalism.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in OCTOBER of each year, and the award amount is usually $60,000.
