Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarship Program is for graduate students. One male and one female student-athlete is awarded every year a postgraduate scholarship in recognition of outstanding academic achievement and potential for success in postgraduate study.
Recipients who are awarded the Byers Scholarship can also renew the scholarship for a second academic year, as long as the graduate school where the Byers Scholar is enrolled provides evidence of the scholar's satisfactory performance and progress.
Candidates must attend an accredited, nonprofit educational institution. Scholarships are paid directly to the school where the Byers Scholar is enrolled for graduate study. Candidates must have a GPA of 3.5 to apply, be a graduating senior or be enrolled in graduate study at an NCAA member institution, and must have competed in intercollegiate athletics as a member of a varsity team at an NCAA member institution.
The Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarship Program was established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association in 1988. The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize the excellent academic and athletic performances by student-athletes.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JANUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $24,000.
