Gabriel Prize Competition

Gabriel Prize Competition
Gabriel Prize Competition is open to students pursuing a career in architecture. Students may apply by submitting illustrations of their personal work to the competition. Winners receive a cash prize plus three-month trip to France to study classical architecture and the landscape.

The selection process includes three phases. The first phase is candidates registering their interest through the submission of illustrations of their personal work and an outline of the studies contemplated. From all entries, three candidates are invited to meet with judges who will then choose one final winner and a runner up.

The winner must be able to begin studies in France by May 1st. They must also maintain a traveling sketchbook, and prepare three large colored drawings within three months under the supervision of the European representative.

The competition is offered by the Western European Architecture Foundation. The Gabriel Prize Competition was formed in 1991 by George Parker, Jr. with the first candidate awarded in 1993. Gabriel was the name of one of France’s most famous architects. The Gabriel Prize program was established partly to encourage students to draw, to think creatively, and to learn by doing.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JUNE of each year, and the award amount is usually $20,000.
