Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation Support Awards offers five education awards each year to assist low-income women with children who are pursuing education or training. Candidates are chosen based on financial need, vocation/occupational goals, personal circumstance, educational path and service or civic goals.
Candidates must be females 17 years or older, a mother with minor children, and must be low-income. For example, for a family of two, the annual family income must be less than $20,000. In addition, applicants must be pursuing a vocational degree/certificate, an associates degree, a first bachelor's degree, or a professional/master's/doctoral degree.
All candidates must be enrolled in a not-for-profit, accredited institution or program. Award money may be used for direct school expenses or for living expenses while enrolled in an educational program.
Patsy Takemoto Mink served in the US Congress from 1965-1977 and from 1990-2002, where she represented Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District. The Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation was established in 2003 to carry on some of Mink's most important commitments: educational access, opportunity, and equity for low-income women, especially mothers; and educational enrichment for children.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in AUGUST of each year, and the award amount is usually $5,000.
