Matthews & Swift Educational Trust Scholarships

Matthews & Swift Educational Trust Scholarships
Matthews & Swift Educational Trust Scholarships are open to children of a member of the Knights of Columbus who were killed while serving in the military, or a police officer or firefighter killed in the line of duty. Recipient must attend a Catholic college.

Children can include natural or adopted children of the deceased member who were born within nine months after the member died or, in the case of adoption, were adopted by the member before they suffered the fatal injury, or in the case of a member in the military, before they suffered the permanently and totally disabling injury.

Scholarship money must be used for tuition only. Scholarship recipients cannot use the money for room, board, books, fees, transportation, dues, computers or supplies.

The scholarship was established by the Knights of Columbus Educational Trust Fund. The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization, founded in 1882 and named in honor of the explorer Christopher Columbus.

The organization is headquartered in New Haven, Connecticut, and has 1,918,122 members. The Knights of Columbus awarded 515 scholarships totaling more than $1.2 million for the 2016-2017 academic year.

Most scholarship recipients are the children of Knights or Knights working toward bachelor’s degrees at Catholic colleges and Catholic universities in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Philippines.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MARCH of each year, and the award amount is usually $25,000.
