Design Sponge Scholarship is open to high school students and both undergraduate and graduate college students with an interest in art and design. Interested students must submit visuals of their design work. It can be anything from painting, woodworking, textiles or other creative art work.

Student may enter by posting design samples on their web sites or sent from their portfolios. They must also include an essay explaining where their inspiration comes from, a description of their career goals, and why they should receive the scholarship.

The scholarship money can be used for college, an internship or to help finance an art project. The amount of the scholarships vary by category and include undergraduate student awards, graduate student awards, and high school student awards. A total of nine scholarships will be awarded.

The scholarship program was initiated in 2007 by the founder of Design Sponge, Grace Bonney. Design Sponge is a blog that features information for art and design enthusiasts. Grace Bonney has appeared on Good Morning America and The Martha Stewart Show and has been a contributing editor for Better Homes and Gardens, Architect, Food and Wine and other top magazines. She also hosts meetings for women who own their own design companies and provides them with business advice that includes legal, marketing, and financial.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in NOVEMBER of each year, and the award amount is usually $250 - $2,500.
