The Expat Youth Scholarship is available to full-time students of any nationality, aged 13 to 18 who are experiencing life in foreign countries amidst unfamiliar cultures. Sponsored by Clements Worldwide, a leading provider of insurance solutions for expatriates and international organizations, the scholarship is offered as an annual award. To qualify, applicants must have lived outside their home country (country of passport) for at least two years, must submit an application, and must submit a 300-400 word essay and an accompanying original photograph.
Submitted essays must contain an introduction, a body, and conclusion paragraphs. The essay's topic is usually required to address a question related to culture, foreign language, and living abroad.
Submitted photos (taken by the applicant) should capture and/or encapsulate the essence of the essay's topic. The photo should also illustrate the theme of the contest. Self-portraits or unrelated pictures are not acceptable.
After a careful evaluation of the final entries, judges will determine the winner based on their essay's originality, style, uniqueness, clarity, structure, and impact. In addition, winners will be chosen based on the artistic quality and composition of the photo they submit.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JUNE of each year, and the award amount is usually $500 - $3,000.
