The scholarship program was established in 2006 by Hawthorn Medical Associates in New Bedford to encourage more students to enter medical and health care related professions such as nursing, pre-med, pharmacy, physical therapy and laboratory sciences.
Applicants must be local residents who have been accepted into an accredited college or university in a medical program. Included in application requirements is an essay in which students explain why they have chosen their field of study and how the scholarship will help them.
Since 2006, Hawthorn Medical Associates Scholarships have been awarded to 42 students, totaling more than $100,000, enabling them to pursue their education in a medical profession.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in APRIL of each year, and the award amount is usually $3,000.
