Thespian Scholarships are open to high school students who are active members of the International Thespian Society who plan to attend college with a major or minor in communicative arts.
The scholarships are offered through the Educational Theatre Association (ETA), a national non-profit organization located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Founded in 1929, ETA is dedicated “… to shape lives by sharing ideas and supporting efforts to have theatre arts education (including film, television, and other related media) recognized in all phases of education and lifelong learning.”
ETA has grown to an organization of 4,600 members with almost 100,000 Thespians representing over 3,900 high schools and middle schools. Their scholarship program supports students seeking a career in the theatre.
Several types of scholarships are awarded, including those for students majoring in communicative arts, students pursuing a career in theatre education, students with outstanding professional talent pursuing a career in acting or technical theatre, and students majoring in theatre performance, technical theatre, or playwriting.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MAY of each year, and the award amount is usually $1,000 - $4,500.
