Colgate "Bright Smiles, Bright Futures" Minority Scholarships are for members of minority groups who are pursuing careers in dental hygiene. This includes African American, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, and males. The purpose of the scholarship is to help groups who are underrepresented in the field of dental hygiene.
Students interested in applying must have completed or in the process of completing one year of a dental hygiene program at a U.S. accredited college or university. They must be a full-time student with a grade point average of 3.0 or above and must demonstrate financial need of at least $1,500. In addition, students applying must be members of the American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA).
The scholarship is funded by Colgate Palmolive Company, a national leader in oral care products as well as personal care, home care and pet nutrition products. Their Bright Smiles, Bright Futures oral health education program is now in 50 countries and has taught the importance of oral health since 1996.
Scholarships are distributed through the ADHA Institute for Oral Health, a non-profit organization established in 1957 whose goal is to develop programs which support the field of dental hygiene. Through financial support from generous donors, they are able to help more students pursue careers in dental hygiene by awarding scholarships.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in FEBRUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $1,000 - $2,000.
