Les Best Scholarship awards are available to students in the state of Ohio who are members or whose parents are members of the Ohio Civil Service Employee Association (OSCEA).
Up to 12 scholarship awards are given each year. They include scholarships for dependents of OSCEA members for attending full-time a college or university, or a technical or vocational school or an apprenticeship program. Spouses of members who attend college full-time are also eligible. Members are eligible and can choose to attend college either part-time or full-time.
The scholarship program has helped defray the costs of higher education for more than 20 years for OSCEA members and their families. Up to 12 scholarships are awarded each year. In 2009, the dollar amount of scholarships was doubled.
OSCEA was founded in 1938 by James Bowman. After losing his job as an employee of the Department of Liquor Control employee in Cleveland, he began the organization to help protect state employees' rights. The organization introduced collective bargaining and worked to finalize its approval as a law in the state of Ohio in 1983.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in APRIL of each year, and the award amount is usually $500 - $2,000.
