The scholarships are very competitive, requiring a 3.0 or higher grade point average and high ACT or SAT scores. Students must be 1/4 degree American Indian or Alaska Native from a tribe that is federally or state recognized. Applicants will also be judged by their leadership skills and involvement in their American Indian tribe.  Eligible students must plan to enroll full-time in either a two-year or four-year college or university.

Scholarships are sponsored by the Native American Scholarship Fund, a non-profit organization founded in 1986 to provide education opportunities for American Indians. Students receiving scholarships are encouraged to continue supporting and helping others in their communities realize the dream of attending college.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in APRIL of each year, and the award amount is usually $500 - $5,000.
