JEFNE Scholarship

JEFNE ScholarshipJEFNE Scholarship is for high school seniors and college students who want a career in journalism. Students must live in New England and either plan to attend college or already be enrolled in college as a journalism major.

A grade point average of 2.3 or above is required as well as completing a 1,000 word essay describing interest in the field of journalism and how the scholarship will help achieve this career goal. Samples of journalism work are also required and may include newspaper articles or any other written work that has been published.

The scholarship is made possible by the Journalism Education Foundation of New England (JEFNE), part of the New England Newspaper & Press Association (NENPA). NENPA is a trade association that serves newspapers throughout the New England states, including Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and Rhode Island. They hold annual conventions and trade shows where newspaper professionals can meet to discuss current needs and issues facing the newspaper industry.

The Journalism Education Foundation of New England is the division of the New England Newspaper & Press Association that awards the scholarships. Students from the six New England states may apply for the scholarship. The foundation awards 10 scholarships each year.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MARCH of each year, and the award amount is usually $1,000.
