ZocDoc Generation Health Scholarship is open to students age 13 and older who plan to enroll in an accredited college or university in the U.S. Students must write an essay describing their experience and view of the health care system in the U.S.
The skills-based contest will award scholarships to the winning finalist who has the most votes and to contest finalists. The essay is a 1-2 page description of a student's experience with the health care system, how it affected them, and what changes they would recommend. Entries will be judged on writing skills, cohesiveness and relevance to the topic.
Students will also be judged on their grade point average and leadership qualities. Entries will be judged by a panel of health experts. Winners will be announced in May.
The scholarship is sponsored by ZocDoc, established in 2007 and headquartered in New York City. The company offers an innovative way for patients to access health care. Patients can find a doctor or dentist who accepts their insurance, check their availability status, and make an appointment online--all for free. Patients can even complete their paperwork online before their appointment.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MARCH of each year, and the award amount is usually $15,000.
