The Ohio Newspapers Foundation Minority Scholarship is an opportunity for an Ohio high school senior to earn a scholarship for their first year of college. This scholarship is open to journalism majors who are African American, Hispanic, Asian American or American Indian.
Students must be graduating seniors from an Ohio high school and planning to enroll, or currently enrolled, in an Ohio college or university majoring in journalism. They must also have a grade point average of 2.5 or above and a strong interest in a career in the newspaper industry.
In addition to academics, students must be active in extracurricular activities and any other activities that are related to journalism. Applicants will need to submit an autobiography of up to 1,000 words explaining their career interests and goals, along with two letters of recommendation.
The scholarship is sponsored by the Foundation for the Ohio Newspaper Association, a non-profit organization serving the interests of over 250 Ohio newspapers and news web sites. It was established in 1933 and is located in Columbus, Ohio.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in APRIL of each year, and the award amount is usually $1,500.
