National Grid's Samuel Huntington Public Service Award

The Samuel Huntington Public Service Award
The Samuel Huntington Public Service Award offers one graduating college senior an opportunity to work in public service for one year. A stipend is paid at the beginning of the public service and after the first six months.

This is not a scholarship but an opportunity for a college student to spend a year in public service to others, in the U.S. or abroad, following graduation from college. Students enter the competition by proposing a public service program that will benefit others. The proposal can be a single idea or one that combines efforts with other established organizations, such as charitable, religious, educational, governmental, or other.

To apply for the award, students need to submit their proposal along with three letters of recommendation. The proposal should include a cover letter and estimated budget. In addition, students will need to include their college transcript and professional resume.

The award is sponsored by National Grid, an energy corporation servicing the energy needs of residents in the U.S. and United Kingdom. The company provides energy solutions and information on responsible and sustainable energy use for customers and communities. The award is named after former CEO Samuel Huntington who set an example by teaching in Nigeria after he graduated from college and before he began his career.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JANUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $10,000.
