George A. Strait Minority Scholarship is available to students who are interested in a career in law librarianship. It is designed to help minority students who demonstrate a financial need in order to attend college.
Minorities can include Asian American, African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, American Indian or Alaskan Native, according to the U.S. guidelines on minorities. They must be currently attending or planning to attend a U.S. accredited library or law school.
To apply, students must be in good academic standing. In addition, three letters of recommendation and a letter from the Admissions Officer of the law school or the library school are required. Applicants must be members of the American Association of Law Libraries.
The scholarship is sponsored by the American Association of Law Libraries, a member-based organization that supports the education of minority students who are pursuing careers in law librarianship. The scholarship program was established in 1990 and named after George A. Strait, an outstanding law librarian who was awarded the AALL Distinguished Service Award in 1989 for his career achievements in law librarianship.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in APRIL of each year, and the award amount VARIES.
