Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH®) Scholarships are offered to graduate students who are interested in a career in the field of natural disaster. Eligible students must be pursuing a master's or doctorate-level degree.
Several different scholarships are offered that include many areas of student interest in the field of natural disaster. For example, students studying behavior changes and the affects on society resulting from natural disasters may qualify for the FLASH Social Science Scholarship.
Other scholarships are directed toward building codes and construction of homes that can withstand natural disasters, backup power sources, disaster liability and risk management, disaster financial impact, and weather prediction. Students applying for a scholarship will be required to answer specific questions about their areas of research in natural disaster.
Scholarships are sponsored by the the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH®), a non-profit organization that serves as an advocate for protecting families against disasters, both natural and manmade. The Florida-based organization supports programs dedicated to disaster safety efforts and students interested in research and education in the field of natural disasters.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in FEBRUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $1,500.
