American Dream Essay Contest is open to high school juniors and seniors who plan to attend college. The contest requires students to write about their experience of growing up in a home they could call their own.
Home ownership is often called the American Dream. The purpose of the essay contest is to foster more thinking among young people about owning a home of their own one day. To enter the contest, students must submit an essay between 500-1000 words that answers one of three proposed essay questions. The essays will give students an opportunity to discuss their viewpoint on the importance of owning a home, or it can discuss their experience helping to build homes for others through Habitat For Humanity volunteer work.
All essays will be judged by how well they address the essay question, compelling writing, consistency of content, spelling, and grammar. Two winners will be chosen to receive scholarships.
The scholarship essay contest is sponsored by Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Georgia Properties, one of the largest and most successful real estate organizations in the country. They are owned by Berkshire Hathaway, one of the largest public companies in the world, ranking number nine. The company's products include diversified investments and insurance products. Berkshire Hathaway is led by Warren Buffet who is the company's chairman, president, and CEO.
