10,000 Degrees Scholarships are offered to California students from low-income households to help them obtain a college degree. Many different scholarships are available.
Students may be eligible for any one of several scholarships offered through 10,000 Degrees. Two-year and four-year college degree programs are available. Some may be designed for particular ethnic groups, such as The Asian Scholarship Fund. Others may be for students from specific high schools or high schools within certain counties. Still other scholarships are designed for students pursuing certain fields of study, such as science, technology, engineering and math. Minimum grade point averages may be required.
The goal of the scholarship program is to help put 10,000 students from low-income households on the path to a college degree. Through funding from businesses, organizations and private donors such as the late Robin Williams, hundreds of low-income students are able to attend college. Eligible students may review all the scholarships offered and choose the one that best fits their background.
10,000 Degrees is a non-profit organization that not only offers scholarships but promotes education through programs and resources that serve students from low-income families. Their flagship program is The 10,000 Degrees Institute which helps students prepare for college, select a college, and provides mentoring and advising to students during college. The program has resulted in a college graduation rate of 84 percent, compared to the national rate of 24 percent for students from low income households.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MARCH of each year, and the award amount is usually $1,000 - $5,000.
