NSLI For Youth Scholarships To Study Language Abroad provides merit-based scholarships for high school students and recent high school graduates to learn other languages through overseas immersion programs. Eligible students who earn the scholarship will learn less commonly taught languages and cultures.
Candidates must have a GPA of 2.5 or above. They must have a desire to learn Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Russian, or Turkish. Eligible students may study abroad at one of the following locations: China, Estonia, India, Jordan, Korea, Latvia, Moldova, Morocco, Russia, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Turkey and other locations. Interns stay with host families and also enjoy cultural excursions.
This scholarship is for students who are passionate about learning foreign languages and culture. The program is designed to foster more interest among American youth that will lead to a lifetime of interest in foreign languages and cultures.
The scholarship is offered by The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. The purpose of the scholarship is to prepare more students to become leaders in a global world. Only U.S. citizens are eligible to participate.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in OCTOBER of each year, and the award amount VARIES.
