AMS Graduate Fellowships

AMS Graduate Fellowships are offered to first-year graduate students pursuing careers in the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic fields. Candidates must be full-time students. Applications are due every January.

Candidates must have a GPA of 3.25 or higher and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. There is no age restriction. Fellowship recipients will receive a stipend for a nine-month period in the academic year. They will also receive partial travel support to attend the AMS Annual Meeting.

Candidates may be in fields that include atmospheric sciences, chemistry, computer sciences, engineering, environmental sciences, hydrology, mathematics, oceanography, and physics. Applications must include official transcripts and three professional references.

Fellowships are sponsored by the American Meteorological Society (AMS), the nation’s premier scientific and professional organization promoting and disseminating information about the atmospheric, oceanic, hydrologic sciences. The organization was founded in 1919 and includes 13,000 members from scientists, researchers, educators, broadcast meteorologists, students, weather enthusiasts, and other professionals in the fields of weather, water, and climate.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JANUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $25,000.
