V&E Scholars Program For Minority High School Seniors is open to high school seniors in Texas with high academics and an interest in law. Applicants must be a minority and demonstrate financial need.
Candidates must be a member of a racial/ethnic group which has been historically underrepresented in the legal profession. This can include Asian, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, or Multiracial/Two or More Races. They must also be in the top 20 percent of their class and have a minimum of 1100 SAT combined score or a minimum of 22 ACT score.
In addition to a scholarship, each V&E Scholar is offered a summer internship at Vinson & Elkins, mentoring from V&E attorneys, and reimbursement for an LSAT preparatory course. To apply, eligible students may submit an application along with a resume, transcript of grades, and two letters of recommendation. Candidates will also be required to complete an essay.
The scholarship is offered by Vinson & Elkins LLP, an international law firm with approximately 700 lawyers worldwide. V&E is headquartered in the First City Tower in Downtown Houston, Texas. Vault's 2018 rankings placed V&E as the #1 firm in Texas. V&E has been awarding scholarships since 1990.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in APRIL of each year, and the award amount is usually $10,000.
