The Gordon Hay Scholarship is open to current high school seniors, college freshmen, or college sophomores from the Charlotte, NC region. Applicants must plan to pursue a non-performing career in the performing arts field. One scholarship is awarded annually.
Examples of non-performance areas within the performing arts include but are not limited to: Music Composition or Musical Direction; Orchestration; Choreography; Play Writing; Set, Costume, Lighting or Sound Design; Arts Administration; Stage Management; Production Management; Technical Direction. Although this is a merit based scholarship, preference may be shown to a student with financial need.
Eligible students may download application packets online. Completed packets must be submitted before the deadline and include a completed application, a one-page essay explaining why they should receive the scholarship, letter of recommendation from a teacher or professional, college acceptance letter, and high school transcript.
The Gordon Hay Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Gordon Hay and is offered through Blumenthal Performing Arts which presents many fine performances from Charlotte Symphony, Community School of the Arts, Charlotte Ballet, On Q Productions, Opera Carolina, Studio 345 and Caroline Calouche & Company.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in APRIL of each year, and the award amount is usually $5,000.
